Cradle Cap
I thought I just write a post about something that most all of us mommy's have dealt with in the past. I learned something new about cradle cap this time around with Dylan. Just FYI - Cradle cap is a rash (fungal based) that is caused by hormonal changes in the infants body. It usually appears in the first few weeks of life and disappears over the next several months as the infants immune system develops. It causes scaling and redness on the scalp. If it extends to the face and chest it is then called seborrheic dermatitis. I have seen infants with thick scab-like patches on their head. Dylan's was a fine pin-point somewhat flaky rash. For you new mommies, don't stress out, it has nothing to do with hygiene or over/under shampooing the hair and scalp. My pediatrician for Dylan told me to use either Head and Shoulder's shampoo, or Nizoral shampoo. If this doesn't improve it try Nystatin cream (which you can buy at any store) and apply directly to the rash. I couldn't believe how much it has helped Dylan's rash.
PS. the pic above is not Dylan- he has much more hair. LOL.
